The Next Ecology is built on a simple but demanding premise: that the ecological crisis is, at its root, a crisis of worldview. We have inherited a way of seeing the world that places human life at the centre and treats everything else as resource, backdrop, or obstacle. That worldview is failing us – ecologically, climatically, and in ways we are only beginning to understand.
The work of The Next Ecology, beyond consulting, is to help shift that. Not by prescribing solutions, but by demonstrating that a different way of seeing is possible – one that locates us within the ecological web rather than above it, and finds in that location not limitation, but possibility.
This means more than protecting nature from harm. It means recognising the connections between living things – human and non-human – and understanding that those connections are not sentimental but structural. The Next Ecology's work is to map out what it looks like to live within that web rather than above or adjacent to it, and to demonstrate – through writing, convening, and advocacy – that this is not only possible, but better: for ecosystems, for communities, and for the quality of human life.

NBS-Net brings together practitioners, researchers, developers, and municipalities working at the intersection of nature and the built environment. Based in Copenhagen, the network exists to share ideas, build connections, and showcase solutions – creating a space where the people working on nature-based approaches can learn from each other and collaborate across disciplines. Current activities include workshop events and publications. Co-founded with Peter Andreas Norn.
Just Warming Up is a video podcast about the environmental issues that don't get enough attention – the overlooked, the neglected, the quietly urgent. Each episode pairs an in-depth discussion with footage of a drawing being made – calm, unhurried, and giving the ideas room to land. Currently in development.
