I've always been fascinated by the question of why cities look the way they do. Every city plan is, in my view, the result of countless decisions – big and small, accumulating and compounding over centuries. But somewhere along the way, that fascination shifted: I became less interested in how cities had grown, and more interested in what they could become.
Getting there took a while. I studied archaeology and history in Australia, then urban planning – dipping into economics, anthropology, and policy as I went. I worked in planning in Australia and the UK, spent time with NGOs in Denmark and India, and arrived in Denmark in 2018, where I completed a master's in urban design at Aalborg University. The breadth was deliberate: I've always found the most interesting questions sitting at the edges of disciplines, not inside them.
What I arrived at, through all of that, was a conviction: that our society's separation from the natural world isn't incidental, it's structural – and that an ecological worldview, one that locates us within nature rather than above it, is the most honest response to the crises we face. And that cities built on that worldview should work harder for everyone left out – doing justice to human and non-human alike.
To pursue that, I founded The Next Ecology.
The Next Ecology is a mission-driven environmental consultancy founded in Copenhagen in 2025. It works with organisations to develop clearer, more effective sustainability strategies – through conversation, analysis, and honest advice.
Beyond consulting, it is a platform for intellectual work, publications, and advocacy: building the case for an ecological worldview, and demonstrating what that looks like in practice. It is, in that sense, as much a movement as a business.
